MOTORISTS are now realising there’s a very handy hack that can stop a windscreen icing up.

All it takes is two common everyday items that the majority of people can find in their kitchen.

Popular car expert ChrisFix shared the advice on his YouTube channel, explaining how a couple of zip-lock bags and a rubbish sack can be used to skip de-icing your motor’s windshield and side mirrors on a chilly winter morning.

Chris explains that drivers can tightly cover each side mirror in a zip-lock bag the night before.

These bags are usually used to store food in fridges and freezer, and can be found in packs at most supermarkets.

This trick is particuarly useful as de-icing frozen side mirrors can quite difficult, especially as using an ice-scraping tool can easily scratch the lenses.

As for the windscreen, Chris begins by explaining that it’s imporant to move the wipers upright and outward to prevent them from freezing to the glass.

He then demonstrates how he uses a canvas cover on his windshield to stop ice from forming.

However, he reiterates that a good alternative to the canvas cover is simply a couple of rubbish bags.

Chris says: “The trick is to make sure they lay flat against the glass so they cling tightly.”

To secure the rubbish bags to the windscreen, which is particularly important when it’s windy, Chris says you can move your wipers over the bags’ bottoms and secure the top with painter’s tape.

Painter’s tape is advised as it will prevent damage to your vehcile’s exterior paint.

Drivers have also been made aware of another clever tip that can prevent a car from blowing a fuse in the winter as temperatures drop… all you need is a pair of old socks!

Elsewhere, a Tesla owner has shown off a bizarre modification he’s made to his car’s dashboard to give it a retro throwback feel.
