We’ve built an EV that can travel further after just 10 mins charge – here’s why it could DESTROY Tesla

TESLA’S stronghold over the EV market is about to be seriously challenged by one of its major rivals.

Car giant Toyota has claimed it’s working on a revolutionary new battery that would see its vehicles travel double the distance that today’s EVs can… and it’s bad news for Elon Musks‘ automaker.

Toyota have revealed that they’re aiming to develop and mass produce solid-state batteries that could have a driving range of 745 miles and a charging time of just 10 minutes.

Most EVs have a range of around 300 miles, and experts believe this promise of much-longer battery life could help bring EVs into the mainstream – with Toyota at the forefront.

Earlier this month, Toyota CEO Koji Sato announced the giant was teaming up with a major oil refiner for the project.

MailOnline reported he said: “With repeated efforts involving trial and error, we have succeeded in developing a material that is more stable and less prone to crack.

“The future of mobility lies in the tie-up between the auto and energy sectors, including this innovation hailing from Japan.”

The Japanese brand believe they’ll be ready to roll out their new battery tech by 2027 or 2028, and will be hoping this development will allow them to close-in on Tesla, who currently dominates the EV market.

The car brand’s Model 3, which will be available in the UK from January 2024, is able to travel over 400 miles on a single charge.

This comes after a Tesla owner recently hit out at the EV brand after being slapped with a £17k bill to fix their electric car after driving it in the rain.

Meanwhile, Tesla boss Musk has revealed the firm’s latest model, the Cybertruck, has been ‘shot at with a Tommy gun’ in a bizarre pre-sale test.
