Liverpool 2 Everton 0: Salah seals controversial Merseyside derby win against ten-man Toffees after VAR awards penalty

LIVERPOOL controversially took the bragging rights on Merseyside as Everton were left raging at Anfield.

The Blues were forced to play the majority of the game a man down after Ashley Young was given his marching orders for a second yellow card on 39 minutes.

Everton bravely battled on and were holding the Reds to a stalemate before an explosive few minutes just after the hour mark.

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who was already on a booking, stopped a Blues counter-attack by tripping up Beto on the halfway line.

Despite the vast protests, the referee failed to dish out a second yellow and send him off – with Jurgen Klopp instantly subbing the defender for Joel Matip.

Things got even worse for Everton seconds later when Michael Keane was adjudged to have handballed inside the area after a VAR check.

And that allowed Mo Salah to break the deadlock from the penalty spot.
