A man said to be in his 50s was found lying on the ground with a head injury and was taken to hospital with his son, who was also attacked.

The pair told police they were assaulted by English fans – a man in his 30s has since been arrested.

Another individual was involved according to police, who state a fight took place.

The suspect arrested was reportedly found to be in possession of cocaine.

A French police source said: “It’s true that there was a fight but it should not be blown out of proportion.

“It involved four British people — two on each side — but it was an isolated incident and we should not lose sight of the fact that globally the weekend went well in Marseille.”

A fight also broke out in the Stade Velodrome in Marseille during England’s win over Fiji.

A group of England supporters dressed as admirals were reportedly removed from the stadium after clashing with other fans.

One person was flung down a row of seats into innocent bystanders.

England fans will flock to Paris on Saturday for the crunch semi-final tie against South Africa, seeking revenge for the 2019 final defeat.
