‘Idiot’ driver mocked for embarrassing blunder at EV charging point – can you spot mistake?

THIS is the bizarre moment and “idiot” EV driver made an embarrassing blunder at a charging point – but can you spot it?

The charging station gaffe was captured in a clip posted to TikTok, much to the amusement of viewers.

An EV driver was filmed using a charger as if it were a petrol pumpTikTok/@i_dad_so_hard

He apparently stood holding the cable for 20 minutesTikTok/@i_dad_so_hard

In the video, the driver can be seen charging his £67,540 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT.

However, instead of plugging it in and leaving it to fill up, he stood holding the charger as if it were a petrol pump.

According to the person filming from the car behind, he remained standing there for a full 20 minutes while restoring his battery.

Unlike traditional petrol pumps, which require a driver to hold the trigger down to allow the fuel to flow, EV chargers work in a similar way to a domestic plug socket.

The attachment locks securely into the socket on the car and does not need to be held in place.

And you can understand why this change was made given that, according to the RAC, the average length of a fuel stop in the UK is just six minutes from start to finish.

In contrast, EV charging can take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours, depending on the power of the charger and the amount of power required.

The user who uploaded the footage was left stunned, saying: “He stood there and ‘pumped’ the electricity.”

Social media commenters were equally taken aback.

One joked: “Did he shake it off to get the last electrons out of the wire before returning the cord to the charger?”

Another laughed: “He didn’t want the electricity to overflow.”

And a third added: “He just wants to feel like it’s gas-powered in some way.”

It comes after an EV expert claimed that drivers actually prefer petrol or diesel models to electric cars.

Meanwhile, 500,000 motorists were warned they could face a ban over a single touch of the phone.
