I’m an EV driver – I got behind the wheel of a Tesla for the first time… but it felt cheap and I hated parts of it

A MAN drove a Tesla for the very first time but wasn’t that impressed, saying it felt heap.

YouTube star The MacMaster put his all electric Porsche Taycan to one side to test drive a Tesla Model Y dual motor to see how it stood up.

At the start he did admit to previously having a dig at Tesla owners saying “they’re like a religious cult” but added he wanted to see what the difference was.

Before setting off on his hour-long test drive, a guy from the garage did a quick run through of the main functions which are accessed via the central control panel.

He showed him how things like the wing mirrors and steering wheel could be adjusted to suit the driver.

Tentatively driving it out of the garage he did say the Tesla was quieter than his Porsche.

When he finally got going and pressed down on the accelerator he said: “Whoa! It’s extremely nippy… My word. This is extremely quick.”

The MacMaster then added: “I’m liking the computer system on here.

“What I don’t like is, and it is on mine is the regen [regenerative] braking because as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator, it’s immediately slowing down.”

When he eventually gets to a main road he once again puts his foot on the accelerator and the car shoots off.

He said: “Oh, jeez… that is mad. That is absolutely mad. That is crazy. That is fast. It’s exceptionally fast.”

The MacMaster then said; “What I don’t like is that on mine, your speed is right in front of you. Here, there’s nothing like that. You’ve got to look over to your left to see what speed you’re doing.

“I like it in front of me.”

The MacMaster then added: “The steering is very sensitive, let’s put it like that.

“The technology and software on this far supersedes the Taycan. This is where Tesla wins.”

However, he did add: “It doesn’t seem overly well built. It seems plasticky.

“The actual build quality is not good.

“If you could put this software into the Porsche Taycan or the Audis, happy days.

“What Tesla should really be doing is selling their software to other manufacturers, then they’d be on a winner.”

Summing up he said: “You need this software. It’s just the car itself, it’s like it’s built out of balsa wood.”
