I drove an Electric Vehicle… it was ugly & voice control kept chattering at me – it wasn’t worth the £63k price tag

A MAN who drove an electric vehicle has said it was ugly and not worth the £63k price tag.

Sean O’Grady took the motor with an eye-watering price for a test-spin near the Lake District.

But the motors expert said that the BMW iX1 was not really as “special” as you’d expect, reports the Independent.

He added that “The BMW’s “face” was also not a looker in terms of style.

Sean said: “It isn’t quite as ugly as on other models in the range, but there’s still something vaguely aggressive about it.”

Comparing it to rival Korean SUVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, he said the BMW was far less attractive.

He continued: “Against its usual premium German opposition, the Mercedes-Benz EQA and Audi Q4 e-tron, the iX1 looks fine but loses a little on indoors ambience.”

And Sean also blasted the Alexa-style voice command system he “really disliked” as it “started stuttering at me at random times”.

However he did say that there were some merits to the electric vehicle.

Sean writes that the compact SUV is “very capable to drive” and has 308hp.

He lauded the car’s superbly ergonomic interior, with excellent steering wheel controls and obviously high-quality materials.

He adds that The BMW’s kit can’t be faulted either, and the Harman Kardon sound system is one of the best around.

And he also praised the motor for being responsive with progressive brakes and highly stable handling.

Sean also pointed out an exciting feature, a little “boost” paddle behind the steering wheel which gives a short, sharp shock of extra power when overtaking.

Unfortunately, he believes that the car is not dynamic enough to stand out from the competition despite some useful features.

It comes after one car enthusiast found a major flaw in the latest Tesla Model 3 Highland – and it has nothing to do with charging.

Meanwhile, a major EV brand went bust despite enjoying the backing of a giant tech company.

And another electric vehicle driver claimed he can’t even afford to insure the motor.
