Defiant Harry Maguire says ‘my win percentage is ridiculously high’ as he fights for Man Utd spot, do stats back him up?

HARRY MAGUIRE has said “my win percentage is ridiculously high”.

The England defender issued his defiant claim as he fights for his spot at Manchester United.

Maguire has started just one Premier League match this season after being strongly linked with an exit this summer.

Speaking whilst on international duty with the Three Lions, he told reporters: “If you look back on my last 15-20 starts for club and country, I would be happy to sit here and say I’m really happy with my performances.

“My record under this manager speaks for itself. I haven’t started as many games as I like but my win percentage when I’ve played is ridiculously high.

“Of course there are times when I could do more and could improve.”

However, do the stats back up Maguire’s claim?

Numbers produced by Stats Perform have shown the win percentages of United players under Erik ten Hag with five or more appearances and 10 or more starts.

Maguire’s stats have also been compared to fellow centre-backs Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane.

The 30-year-old is correct with his win percentage claim when compared to other players with five or more appearances under Ten Hag.

Maguire has the best win percentage of players with five or more appearances under Erik ten Hag

The defender ranks third amongst players with 10 or more starts under Ten Hag

Across 35 matches since the Dutch boss took over, Maguire has 27 wins at a rate of 77 per cent, ahead of Scott McTominay on 73 per cent.

However, he only ranks third amongst those who have made 10 or more starts during Ten Hag’s time in the dugout.

Maguire has won 78 per cent of his 18 starts, below Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho on 83 per cent and 79 per cent, respectively.

When compared to the rest of United’s centre-back options, Maguire has had varied success in several areas.

The former Leicester man has the most interceptions and aerial duels won per 90 minutes.

He has also conceded the most fouls per game, though, when compared to Martinez, Lindelof and Varane.

However, only Martinez has bettered Maguire for tackles, possession gains and blocks per 90.

Meanwhile, Maguire’s 3.5 clearances per game are more than Lindelof, but slightly less than Martinez and Varane.

It is unknown whether Maguire will have a future at United under Ten Hag, having been linked with a move to West Ham in the summer.

The defender still has over a year left on his current contract, though, with his deal running until 2025.
