The German-based luxury motor manufacturer will also be stopping production of its similar-looking E-Class equivalent.

Replacement 2024 CLE coupe and convertible models have been promised, tipped to have starting prices of £50,000.

Mercedes has said the new cars will fit into what it called a “long tradition of sporty, elegant dream cars”.

The company insisted the CLE would “raise the bar” with its “expressive design, exclusive comfort features for maximum individuality and confident, sporty driving performance”.

Yet there has been disappointment among Mercedes fans over the decision to stop making the C-Class Coupes.

Car fans on Auto Express called the replacement CLEs a “bad move” by Mercedes, forecasting they would be a “rare sight on the roads”.

Another criticised the firm for getting rid of what they called “the only Mercedes with any character”.

C-Class Coupes have accounted for one in three of all Mercedes motors sold in Britain as well as being the firm’s bestselling product worldwide.

An updated version in 2018 offered new comfort control settings pumping soothing sounds and smells into the cabin, as well as having the seat massage the driver.

The new cancellation comes as a man who drives a Mercedes electric vehicle for work told how he would never opt for an EV for personal use.

Other Mercedes owners have been advised about a hidden feature in the car fob which can help you personalise your motor.

The new Mercedes CLA Coupe 200 has earned positive reviews but also warnings about one major drawback.

Other motors recently revealed to be discontinued this year include the Chevrolet Bolt EUV as well as Ferrari‘s F8 Tributo and Portofino M.

US motoring giant Dodge revealed it would be discontinuing both the Charger and the Challenger, while Chevrolet announced the end for its gas Camaro.

And Ford said it was axeing its popular Edge and Fiesta models for next year.
