Why 50 Cent is bizarrely sponsoring a Welsh Under-14s girls team as club say ‘Ryan Reynolds has competition now’

RAPPER 50 Cent is the latest celebrity to sponsor a British football team.

The American artist, real name Curtis Jackson III, has sponsored a Welsh girls team.

AFC Rumney under-14s have been backed by 50 Cent

AFC Rumney’s under-14s from Cardiff will have his and collaborators G-Unit’s names on their away shirt and tracksuits this season.

The surprise sponsorship deal was agreed after one of the team’s parents worked with 50 Cent on a recent tour.

They were then encouraged by other parents to ask if he could sponsor the side.

“He said he would ask the question – worst case scenario was [50 Cent] would have just said no,” manager Richie Brown told the BBC.

“Thankfully he didn’t, he agreed to it. He sponsored our away kit first of all, and then we were a little bit cheeky.

“We asked for a little bit more, and he sponsored us again for our tracksuits.”

The new kits will be worn for the first time next week in AFC Rumney’s first away match of the season.

Brown added: “We’re going to get a few photos taken and sent over to him, then hopefully he can give us a good luck video or something to acknowledge it all.

“We’re massively appreciative of everything he’s doing for us right now. We love the support.”

50 Cent is not the first celebrity to attach themselves to a club in Wales.

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have owned League Two side Wrexham since 2020.

“I think Ryan Reynolds has got a bit of competition now,” Brown joked.

“I’m sure the community up in Wrexham is absolutely buzzing with what Ryan Reynolds has done, and hopefully 50 Cent can have that same kind of impact with us down here.”
