Ex-Man Utd coach given huge release clause as Premier League sides circle after incredible start to season

IPSWICH will demand a whopping £4million in compensation for any club eyeing Kieran McKenna.

The former Manchester United coach, 37, is a rising star after leading the Tractor Boys to promotion and a great start  in the Championship.

McKenna seems sure to get other offers soon but Ipswich are covering themselves in case Premier League sides come calling.

He is also on a healthy salary at Portman Road, around £25,000-a-week wage plus bonuses.

But, should a move to the top division transpire, he could be expected to earn a bigger whack – with Crystal Palace reportedly interested in replacing Roy Hodgson with McKenna.

The London-born manager oversaw his side’s 4-2 win over Preston on Saturday.

Ipswich had to dig deep to overcome the third-placed visitors in a pulsating game.

“This was the seventh game in a 21 day period and all of the games have been high level,” McKenna revealed after the match.

“There’s been very little time to rest and at times we looked tired today because of that.

“On the other hand we scored four goals – two excellent set-piece goals, a great individual goal and the substitutes coming on and pressing the ball well before scoring on a breakaway – and could have scored more.”
