How Man Utd’s rivals are targeting Andre Onana in surprising tactic as key weakness is revealed

OPPOSITION teams have identified a key weakness in Manchester United star Andre Onana’s game, according to reports.

The Ghanaian joined the Red Devils in a £47million move from Inter Milan in the summer.

Onana worked with boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax and was supposed to resolve United’s goalkeeping woes after replacing David de Gea.

He has so far struggled at Old Trafford, however, making a series of key errors.

According to the Telegraph, opposition analysts have spotted Onana’s tendency to stay on his line.

They believe that this invites shots on goal, by failing to close down the angle.

Some opponents have even been told to take early snapshots against Onana, believing that he can be caught out.

The 27-year-old is known to come off his line when in possession of the ball.

But he has made a habit of scampering back to his line when his team don’t have the ball.

Onana’s tendency can also leave him susceptible to players racing in behind.

Wilfried Zaha was able to spring United’s offside trap for Galatasaray‘s opening goal in their 3-2 win on Tuesday night, getting on the end of Davinson Sanchez‘s long ball to score.

Mauro Icardi was also able to convert following a Sanchez pass, with Onana having committed himself to the ground early.

The former Ajax goalkeeper was highly praised for his ability on the ball prior to joining United.

But he has so far been unconvincing, with a poor pass leading to Galatasaray’s penalty and a red card for Casemiro.

Despite his errors, Onana has been backed by manager Erik ten Hag – with the Dutchman having pushed to be reunited with him in the summer.

Asked about the possibility of dropping his first choice stopper, Ten Hag said: “He can be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“We have seen already his great capabilities and also his personality.

“He will make a mistake and bounce back, and will do so again, I am sure.”
