And it looks as if it got pretty serious with bottles and flares being thrown back and forth between both sets of fans.

Chants of “Who are ya?” could be heard as Newcastle supporters taunted the travelling Parisians on their way to the stadium.

While police officers lined the streets and acted as a barrier between PSG’s away following and the Toon Army.

It comes as Eddie Howe’s men will be hoping that their stadium will act as a cauldron of noise for their Champions League group stage game this evening.

It’s the first home game that the Magpies have hosted at their place amongst Europe’s elite in over 20 years.

The Premier League side returned to action in the competition last month when they played out a 0-0 draw with AC Milan at the San Siro.

But the task of welcoming French giants PSG and their star studded cast will be something different for the competition’s relative rookies.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele will be a welcome but difficult challenge for the Premier League’s eighth place team.

But Newcastle couldn’t be coming into the fixture in better form if they tried winning all of their last three matches without conceding a goal.

And during those three victories they toppled treble winners Man City and stuck EIGHT goals past Sheffield United in the league
