Controversial new £2million attraction set to open in the UK – featuring nail-biting treetop adventure

A NEW £2million adventure attraction is set to open in the UK – despite the plans previously being scrapped.

Zip World has revealed plans for a 400-metre zip line at Tamar Trails in Devon.

The alpine coaster would speed through the treetop canopy, with passengers strapped in and attached to a long wire.

The plans were ditched last year after it was revealed 300 trees would need to be cut down to build it.

However, the new application has said only 36 trees would be cut down, with new woodlands planted to make up for this.

The new attraction would be the latest addition for Zip World, which already has the fastest zip line in the world, found in Wales.

The latest zip wire attraction would join other activities at Tamar Trails including the high ropes adventure course Tree Surfers.

Rob Kinchin-Smith, the heritage consultant on the project, told local media: “There will be a limited amount of thinning of plantation trees and the rails will be under the canopy of the trees so will not be visible from a distance.

“Much of the ecology is on the woodland floor and any loss of ecology will be negligible.

“Also the zip rail will have one person at a time on it, there will not be car loads of people screaming down through the woods.”

And some locals are happy about the new plans.

Fleur Forer said: “As long it doesn’t negatively impact on the environment or upset the locals who are in striking range of hearing the noise, as the noise pollution is a big issue.

“If they can tick those boxes and it is a really safe place for everyone to enjoy then this time their plans might go through.”

No official opening dates or ticket prices have been announced.

The UK is home to a number of other amazing attractions.

A ‘bizarre’ award-winning UK tourist attraction is in the middle of nowhere – and it’s actually better to visit in bad weather.

And another new adventure resort could soon open in Wales – with zip lines, a cable car and a scary sky swing.
