Arsenal ‘line up shock swoop for Man City flop’ with Mikel Arteta set to hit transfer market for midfield reinforcements

MIKEL ARTETA is reportedly looking to raid Manchester City to bolster his side’s midfield.

The Gunners thumped Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday to move to within a point of the table-topping Cityzens in the Premier League.

Arteta already improved his options in the middle of the park with the arrivals of Kai Havertz and club-record signing Declan Rice during the summer.

Now a fresh report has claimed that he is planning to add more depth to his squad by making a move for England international Kalvin Phillips.

The 27-year-old only joined City from Leeds in 2022 but his game-time has been limited at the Etihad.

Phillips, who has played just 161 minutes this term, has only started two top-flight matches under Pep Guardiola.

And now Spanish publication Fichajes are claiming that Arsenal are readying a swoop in January.

They state that Arteta is still “determined to strengthen their midfield” even further.

And with next summer’s Euros in mind, Phillips is “seeking more playing time on the pitch and could consider joining Arsenal if this guarantees him a more prominent midfield role”.

But his potential incoming could also result in Arsenal offloading another international from their squad to make room.

Italian star Jorginho, 31, only joined the North London club from Chelsea in January.

However, he has also struggled to make much of an impact.

The former Napoli ace is yet to start a game this term and this update states that he could be up for sale.
