Disney+ customers warned of major changes coming in 30 days – and rule breakers will have their accounts BLOCKED

THE Netflix-style password crackdown may have finally landed at Disney+ customers’ door.

Disney+ viewers have been warned that it will reportedly push ahead with its account sharing ban as soon as November 1.

CEO Bog Iger hinted at taking the streaming service in the same direction as Netflix in mid-August.

At the time, he said there was a “significant” number of viewers who were sharing passwords across Disney’s services.

Iger added that Disney “will begin to update our subscriber agreements with additional terms and our sharing policies” later this year and will also “roll out tactics to drive motivation” in 2024.

Netflix rolled out its crackdown on account sharing to the UK and the US (alongside 100 other countries) in late May, becoming the first of the streaming giants to do so.

According to onlookers, it was only a matter of time before streaming rivals followed suit.

Disney’s account sharing ban is set to begin in Canada in a little over one month’s time, Whatsondisneyplus.com reported.

November 1 is also the launch date for the new ad-supported tier for Disney+ in Canada, the UK and Europe.

This will run alongside the more expensive ad-free tier, but will offer viewers an opportunity to hop onto a cheaper plan if desired.

But ahead of this new tier being introduced, Disney has sent out updated subscriber agreements to its viewers detailing password sharing restrictions.

The new rules on account sharing state: “Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household.

“‘Household’ means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.

“We may, in our sole discretion, analyse the use of your account to determine compliance with this Agreement.

“If we determine that you have violated this Agreement, we may limit or terminate access to the Service and/or take any other steps as permitted by this Agreement.”

A separate Disney+ help document was recently updated to clarify who viewers can share their account with, according to TechRadar.

The help text now reads: “You may not share your account and subscription outside of your household.

“‘Household’ means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.”

Echoing Netflix, only devices operating from within the account payer’s residence can use the service.

If viewers are caught breaching Disney’s new contract terms and conditions then they could see their account banned.
