Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas temporarily agree to keep their daughters in New York amid divorce battle

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have temporarily agreed to keep their daughters in New York amid their divorce battle, People reports.

The publication claims to have obtained a copy of documents filed on Monday, with an interim consent order instructing the former couple to keep their kids in the Southern and Eastern districts of New York.

Documents reportedly say the pair both ‘agreed’ to the arrangement and if it’s broken, the court can “take or cause to be taken measures under Federal or State law, as appropriate, to protect the well-being of the child involved or to prevent the child’s further removal or concealment before the final disposition of the petition.”

It comes after the Game of Thrones star filed a petition in New York City on Thursday requesting Jonas return their children to their home in England, according to court documents obtained by CNN.

The petition cites the “wrongful retention” of their children “in New York City from their habitual residence of England,” and that they had made England their “permanent” home in April of 2023.

Turner had planned to return to England this month with the children, the petition states, but when she attempted to collect their passports from Jonas, she claims he refused.

Jonas filed for divorce from Turner on September 5 after four years of marriage. Turner also claims in her petition that she found out Jonas filed for divorce through “the media”.

The Washington Post reports the petition read: “The breakdown of the parties’ marriage happened very suddenly.”

“The parties had an argument on August 15, 2023. On or about September 1, 2023, the Father filed a divorce case against the Mother in Florida. On or about September 5, 2023, the Mother found out through the media that the Father had filed for divorce.”

A representative for Jonas disputed that claim, stating Turner was ‘aware’ in advance he was going to file for divorce.

A representative of Jonas claims to People that a Florida Court has entered an order to restrict both parties from relocating their children and claimed her petition filing is ‘misleading’.

“After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.”

“Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup.”

The statement alleges Turner changed her mind after the meeting.

“Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order.”

“[Jonas] is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the US and the UK,” the representative said.

“[The children] have spent the vast majority of their lives in the US.”
