In all, 1.3million Morris Minors were made and it was the first Brit car to sell more than a million.

The motor was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, who later went on to develop the Mini.

The newly-sold car does 40 miles to the gallon and can hit 64mph.

It has small versions of railway signals which pop up as indicator lights.

The motor was sold by Historics Auctioneers in Slough, Berks, who said: “It is understood to be the oldest running example.”

The car has chassis number 507.

Numbers 502 to 506 are missing while the first is in the National Motor Museum, in Beaulieu, Hampshire.
