Cost of Brits’ favourite brands more than DOUBLE in a year amid cost of living crisis

THE prices of Mr Kipling cakes, Cheerios cereal and Coca-Cola have more than doubled in a year.

Although food inflation has slowed to 12.5 per cent, the cost of many of our favourite brands has shot up at supermarkets.

Mr Kipling’s Angel Slices have soared in price by 110 per cent over the past year

The cost of many of our favourite brands has rocketed over the past year due to inflation

Mr Kipling’s Angel Slices are now £2.70 at Tesco but cost £1.29 last year — a rise of 110 per cent.

Honey Cheerios are up a similar percentage — from £1.20 to £2.50 at Ocado.

A pack of eight cans of Coca-Cola Classic Cherry at Ocado has soared by 145 per cent, from £2.37 to £5.80.

Chocolate treats have been hit too.

Asda’s six-pack of Chocolate Caramel Chews are more than double the 65p last summer.

Bolands Elite Chocolate Kimberley bars are also twice last year’s price of £1.30.

Shoppers at discounter Lidl have seen prices double too.

Sol & Mar Palmeritas puff pastry biscuits are up from 76p to £1.49.

Which? looked at the average price over the past three months, to even out discounts, and compared the same period in 2022.

The consumer watchdog’s Ele Clark said: “Those with a sweet tooth are paying over twice as much for their favourites as they were this time last year.

“Customers who can’t live without their favourite treats should shop around, stock up when they see a good price or think about opting for an own-brand or budget-range alternative.”

A separate report by Which?, out on Friday, said a supermarket’s own label version of staples such as rice, baked beans and tea bags can cost three times as much as budget lines.
