Inside London without cars as expert imagines what the capital could look like by 2050

ARTIFICIAL Intelligence has created a vision of London if there was a complete ban on cars.

Images of a London without cars show Brits cycling along wide lanes in the city centre.

Futuristic red buses and helmet-clad Londoners are overshadowed by Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament building.

By the London Eye crowds of people cross a pedestrian-only bridge, while the usual boats continue to operate on the River Thames.

Above the bridge sit glass pods filled with lush gardens, something that wouldn’t look out of place on an episode of Futurama.

On Oxford Street, the capital’s shopping district, red buses manoeuvre between pedestrians.

And again luscious green pods overlook the carless streets below.

In another image trams appear to have become a new form of transport in the centre of London.

Diners sitting outside are passed by crowds of walkers and those on bikes as the roads are taken over by alternative forms of transport.

It comes as it was claimed cars will be replaced by e-bikes, segways and travelators, according to national survey commissioned by Swapfiets, an ebike hire shop.

Dan Sodergren, Tech Futurist, said: “Like many, I dream of a future less dependent on automobiles.

“We needn’t aim for a world entirely without cars, but one significantly leaner on them, and we owe it to the
next generations to make this happen.”

Amanda Gandolpho, Swapfiets Brand Director, said: ”We want to make it easy for anyone to hop on a bike.

“We believe that’s the best thing people can do everyday for themselves, their cities and the planet.

“Cycling is freeing, fun and you’d be surprised by how fast you can move through the city on an e-bike.

“We hope that the pictures inspire people to visualise how more liveable cities will look once they are less congested.”

It comes as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said families should not have to suffer in the quest for Net Zero.

Drivers now have a five-year reprieve from going electric.
