Top jockey Hayley Turner fined for using phone while driving

TOP jockey Hayley Turner has escaped a driving ban for using her phone at the wheel.

Trailblazing rider Turner, 40, was driving a BMW in racing HQ Newmarket at the time of the offence in January this year.

Turner escaped a ban after pleading guilty to using her phone while drivingPA

She already has six points on her licence at the time and admitted using her phone at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

But she was spared the six penalty points and a ban and given a £100 fine instead, report the BBC.

Flat star Turner, who was awarded an OBE in 2016, said she would suffer from a loss of employment and be unable to pay her mortgage without a car.

She was also ordered to pay a £40 victim surcharge and costs of £110.

Turner recently revealed how a deranged stalker sent her drugs from prison.

She said she was left with no choice but to go to police to get the harassment to stop after the convict also threatened her nan.

Turner told safebettingsites.com: “Well before social media some guys used to write to me from Brixton prison.

“I don’t know how the letters found their way to me because he just wrote ‘Jockey Hayley Turner, Newmarket’ but the Royal Mail did a great job of getting them to me.

“He used to write some pretty weird stuff and he actually sent me a spliff once, which was a bit random.”

Turner has ridden 968 career winners and amassed prize money of more than £9.5million.

She has 24 wins at Group and Listed level including Group 1 successes in the 2011 July Cup and Nunthorpe Stakes.
