Fury as woke health bosses remove word ‘mother’ from maternity document

WOKE bosses at the General Medical Council have sparked outrage after removing the word “mother” from a document about maternity.

It has been replaced with gender-neutral references, such as swapping “surrogate mother” to “surrogate parent”.

The body that regulates medical professionals, has been slammed for forcing “woke ideology” on staff.

Professor Karol Sikora, an oncologist for 50 years, said: “Not enough medical professionals are standing up to this lunacy.

“Only women can get pregnant and give birth. Sorry, but that’s a biological fact.”

One GMC staff member said: “It’s a concerted effort to ignore the existence of women.

“It’s not appropriate for a medical organisation to ignore biology.

They should stick to science.”

Helen Joyce, the director of advocacy group Sex Matters, said: “It beggars belief that one of the UK’s leading medical organisations has erased the word ‘mother’ from its maternity policy.”

The GMC’s menopause policy, a separate document, has also been stripped of references to women.

It states: “We are committed to ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all staff, providing support for colleagues experiencing the menopause.”

Heather Welford, from With Woman, a group of midwives and other maternity clinicians, said the changes were “ideologically driven”, “potentially harmful for women and babies” and “insulting to women”.

In a statement, a GMC spokesman said: “We have clearly titled maternity, paternity and adoption policies for our staff, which we review regularly.”
