A SAVVY passenger has revealed his ridiculous trick to keep the seat next to you empty during a flight.

TikTok user @muscadinebloodline8 shared his game plan when onboard a Southwest Airlines flight in the US.

More “traditional” hacks usually include: booking the window and aisle seat with your companion, leaving the middle seat empty so no one will likely book it or placing an item like a book or a scarf.

Putting on your most unapproachable expression can sometimes do the trick.

You can also try asking the check-in agent nicely to place you next to an empty seat.

But the clever passenger went above and beyond with his “mannequin” hack.

Low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines has an “open seating” policy, where everyone can simply choose their own seats when they board the aircraft.

“Southwest-operated flights have open seating.

Once onboard, simply choose any available seat and stow your carry-on items in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you,” a statement on the airline website read.

With this in mind, the passenger used his arms, jacket and a cap, and fashioned it to look as though the seat next to him was already taken.

It might not be foolproof, but passengers walking by can get the peripheral vision of the seat being occupied.

It is not known whether the passenger succeeded in keeping the seat unoccupied but the clip showed people walking past the “occupied” seat without a second glance.

Another frequent flyer has revealed a sneaky clever hack that lets you get better seats on a plane.

Ben, who often shares his top travel tips on TikTok, recently explained how the “T-minus 80” rule could make your long flight much easier.

He explained on TikTok: “There is a thing on Qantas which you should look out for called T-80.

“‘T’ being take off and take 80 hours off that.

“Quite often, a lot of the seats will open up that have been blocked by the airline.

“So you can still pick a seat even if it looks like there are none available if you login in at T-minus 80.

“You have to be quick because a lot of people who are in the game know about this, but you will get a better seat.”

A fellow travel expert also revealed her ingenious way to cram more clothes into her carry-on.

Chelsea Dickenson, better known as the Cheap Holiday Expert, devised her holiday hack after spotting a TikTok user stuffing a huge pillowcase with outfits before embarking on a long-haul flight.
