I drove a new EV and it was awful – it BROKE four times and the indicators make a stupid ‘beatboxing’ sound

A CAR expert who road tested a new EV has slammed it after it broke four times while he was driving it.

Matt Watson from Carwow took to YouTube to explain why the latest Jeep Avenger just wasn’t for him.

In the video, he listed the five things that annoyed him most about the motor as it was littered with issues.

First of all, he claimed that the indicators made a “beatboxing” sound, which he described as “really c***”.

He also joked that it sounded like a “rubbish” synthesizer from the 1980s, before dubbing it over with a rendition of Yankee Doodle.

Next up, he took aim at the groaning noise the brakes made when the car was moving at very low speed.

Matt asked simply: “What’s that all about?”

Thirdly, he complained that the rearview mirror extended too far down the windshield.

This meant his view was slightly blocked in the center of the windscreen, which could be dangerous.

Indeed, driving with your view obstructed is actually an offence carrying a £1,000 fine and three licence points.

While this would not usually be applied to a fixed part of the car, if it was a provable distraction then it could see you in hot water with the law.

Addressing the fourth issue, Matt said: “The location of the seatbelt mount is very close to the whirl that you use to recline the seat.

“It’s actually quite awkward to get your hand in there and move the seat back.

“It jabs into the back of your hand which kind of hurts.”

Finally, he noticed a small but irritating design flaw, that being a plastic ladybird deliberately worked into the trim on the Jeep’s roof.

While not the most significant problem, Matt described it as looking “like a wart” and said he was desperate to be able to take it off.

However, he did appreciate some of the Jeep’s other features, including the ability to store the load cover under the boot’s false flaw and a little-known button that lets you strengthen the traction control to hold the car on a hill.

But the real problem came when he tried to drive it around town and on the motorway, with four breakdowns stopping him in his tracks.

Each time he received a dashboard message warning him to stop the car as there was a fault with the brake system.

This was accompanied by an unusually buzzing sounds from under the bonnet and forced him to stop repeatedly.

Social media commenters were quick to agree with his criticism.

One sarcastically wrote: “The R in Jeep stands for reliability.”

Another added: “Love the idea of a car that’ll take you from 0-60 but then threatens to not do 60-0.”

It comes after a motors expert revealed a key sign that you should get your engine checked immediately.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian captured the shocking moment a £600,000 ‘Monopoly car’ smashed into LA traffic.
