The company may soon stop making them altogether, according to reports.
A Hyundai spokesperson told GoAuto.com.au: “Since the Kona N was released back in late 2021, we have sold about 1500 examples, but the car has proven the least popular N model in our line-up.
“Until Cupra came out with something similar, there were no direct competitors for the Kona N.
“This is the last batch of the Kona N we have been able to secure so it’s first come, first serve.”
The Kona N SUV was first introduced in 2017.
After five years, it made a comeback with a transformed design and improved features.
As vehicle brands transition to renewable energy cars, experts said the high performance small SUV is unlikely to make a return.
With emissions standards getting tighter each year, companies are looking to transition to EVs.
The Hyundai spokesperson said: “If a new generation Kona N was to be planned and built it would more than likely be an EV.”
It comes as another major car brand is being discontinued but its popular model will live on under a new name.
The Volkswagen Group has made a major decision to stop making its Seat cars in a key shake up of its strategy but some models will be rebadged as Cupra in the next few years.
Meanwhile, an iconic car beloved by millions of Brits will be discontinued as the firm behind it launches a brand new EV.
Stefanie Wurst, who heads up legendary manufacturer Mini, confirmed the massive change this week.
