Shaquille odds-on to land Betfair Sprint Cup but horse whose owners paid £20,000 to enter catches the eye at 14-1

SHAQUILLE is odds-on with bookies Betfair to land their big Sprint Cup on Saturday.

But an intriguing 14-1 chance whose owners have paid the £20,000 supplementary fee catches the eye.

Julie Camacho’s stable star Shaquille has been one of the stories of the season.

A regular blower of starts, he powered home to claim the Commonwealth Cup then reared in the stalls again before winning the July Cup.

With over £782,000 made from his eight starts, the three-year-old colt has turned into a money-making machine.

He can smash the £1million earnings mark with victory in the Group 1 at Haydock on Saturday and Betfair are taking no chances with his price.

Spokesman Barry Orr priced him up at 10-11 but revealed there had been support for Mill Stream.

The Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained colt has claimed Listed and Group 3 wins in his past two starts at Deauville and travels over from France looking to take the step up again.

Mill Stream finished 23 lengths behind Little Big Bear in the Sandy Lane Stakes when last seen at Haydock in May.

Orr said: “Shaquille is the star turn and, even with the stables form a cause for concern, he is clear favourite topping the betting at a shade of odds-on, 10-11.

“It’s great to see Jane Chapple-Hyam role the dice and supplement the fast-improving Mill Stream.

“That’s another three-year-old who is sure to have his supporters at 14-1.”

Some 23 horses remain in contention at the five-day confirmation stage.

Listed winner Believing has also been put in at a cost of £20,000.

Kinross is second-fav in the betting but punters should be aware that Lezoo looks set to be Ralph Beckett’s sole representative in the race.

Beckett said: “Lezoo will go to Haydock for the Sprint Cup as it doesn’t matter what the ground is.

“I don’t know who will ride her yet and we will find that out in the coming days.

“It depends on the weather for Kinross as he won’t run unless it is good or softer.

“I’m not going to run him over six furlongs on quick ground at Haydock Park as that won’t play to his strengths.

“My best guess is that he won’t run.”
