US Open winner looks unrecognisable without spiky hair 11 years after retiring from tennis

A FORMER US Open champion is now sporting a completely new look almost 11 years on from his retirement.

The ex-tennis ace burst on to the scene when he made his professional debut in 2000.

During his second year on the ATP Tour, he defeated seven-time Wimbledon champion Pete Sampras in the third round of the Miami Masters.

He also cruised to a straight-sets win over then-world No1 Gustavo Kuerten at the age of just 18.

His breakthrough year came in 2003, when he won his first – and only – US Open title after defeating Carlos Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final.

By the end of that same year, aged 21, he topped the men’s tennis rankings.

However, he was unable to prolong his spell at the top due to the rise of Roger Federer, who beat him in his four other Grand Slam finals, including three at Wimbledon.

And the Texas-born star shocked the world when he called it quits and announced his retirement from tennis on his 30th birthday back in 2012.

He has since pursued a career in broadcasting alongside other passions – including co-owning a whiskey brand and a golf course.

This tennis star is, of course, Andy Roddick.

The 40-year-old is now completely unrecognisable from his playing days, with his iconic spiky hair now completely shaved off.

Roddick, who recently became a tennis ambassador for Betway, has been keeping himself busy since retiring.

In 2019 he purchased Sweetens Cove golf course alongside NFL star Peyton Manning and some other friends.

The course – which is described as golf’s “field of dreams” – is located in Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee.

Just one year later, the same group started Sweetens Cove whiskey after embracing a course tradition.

Roddick has admitted to throwing away most of his trophies, but his 2003 US Open trophy remains – hidden in a corner of his home office.

The tennis star is still connected to the sport.

He featured on the recent Netflix documentary series Break Point which followed some of the world’s top tennis stars throughout 2022.
