I’m an expert mechanic… here’s why a popular car’s engine scares me – avoid and save hundreds

AN expert mechanic has explained why he is “scared” by a popular car brand’s engine.

Scotty Kilmer discussed a major issue with the motor on his YouTube channel.

YouTubeHe said the motor is less efficient than his much older Toyota Matrix[/caption]

Reviewing a second-hand Nissan Rogue, Scotty said: “Let’s look under the hood and you may be shocked at what you’re going to find.

“The variable compression engine is so complex…it’s garbage technology.”

The car whizz went on to explain that variable compressions was designed to make engines more efficient, yet the Rogue only gets 30 miles to the gallon.

He compared this with his 16-year-old Toyota Matrix which, with a similarly sized engine, gets 37mpg on the road.

Scotty added: “You ask any honest engineer today they will say ‘yes it’s obviously a dismal failure’.

“It’s just patent absurdity.

“They pretty much wasted their time on the variable compression engine.”

Not only that, but he explained that if the engine ever runs into any issues “nobody” knows how to fix them due to their complexity.

This could see you stuck without a running car for some time or facing hefty repair bills for specialist mechanics.

Social media commenters were stunned by the revelation.

One wrote: “We test drove one of these and could not believe how much vibration we felt from the engine.”

Another added: “My Wife’s 2015 Rogue would shift harshly sometimes, and in cold weather at a cold start, it would hesitate to shift at all and the RPMs would just increase.”

It comes after Scotty revealed the three cars that will cost you the most in repairs due to reliability issues.

Meanwhile, a car expert explained what different colours of smoke coming from your exhaust mean and when to take action.

He labelled it a ‘dismal failure’YouTube
