MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly lining up a shock transfer swoop for free agent Anwar El Ghazi.

The former Aston Villa winger is without a club after leaving PSV Eindhoven this summer.

But El Ghazi could now be set for a stunning return to England with United, having been present for their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal before the international break.

The Red Devils are looking light in wide areas, with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Sancho’s public spat with boss Erik ten Hag could see him frozen out of first-team proceedings for some time.

As for Antony, he has been given time off by the club after being accused of domestic violence.

The Mail claims their situations could result in El Ghazi being handed a lifeline by United this month.

The two-time Holland international spent three-and-a-half years with Aston Villa before joining Everton in 2022.

He has since been plying his trade with PSV, but was let go by the Dutch side late last month.

Like Ten Hag, El Ghazi is a former Ajax disciple – although the pair never worked together in Holland’s capital.

He can play either side of the front three.

And signing El Ghazi would relieve some of the pressure put on youngster Alejandro Garnacho, as well as Facundo Pellistri.

It’s reckoned he has offers from teams in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, there is interest from other Premier League clubs too.

But El Ghazi would be unlikely to turn down an offer from United should one be made.
