It was all in a day’s work for Robert Irwin, who was surprised to receive a call asking him to save a snake stuck in a vending machine at Australia Zoo.
The young wildlife warrior posted a video to TikTok of the process of rescuing the carpet python, which had found itself trapped inside the vending machine, visible from outside and trapped with the cans.
“This is a first,” he shared to the camera.
As the machine was being opened, the 19-year-old innocently joked, “Here’s our chance, free Coca Cola!”

He then got to work slowly coaxing the snake out of it’s hiding place, explaining, “What we don’t want is for him to go up into the wiring.”
Pulling the snake out from the front of the machine, he said, “We don’t want to make him too upset, ’cause we want him to come out nice and smooth.”
As he helped it come out, he calmed it down by saying “Keep coming, mate, keep coming. Nearly there buddy, nearly there” – sounding remarkably like his late father, Steve Irwin.

Later examining the snake, Irwin shared, “This bloke has obviously got a spirit of getting himself caught in weird situations, ’cause he’s missing the end of his tail,” pointing out the old injury that must have happened some time ago.
“We’ll relocate this guy,” he assured before turning and chastising the snake with a wagging finger, “Don’t go in any more vending machines, alright?!”
