Facebook Marketplace and Ebay were among the sites lucky punters used to try and shift the rare coin bearing Charles’s portrait.

Some sellers were making a quick buck and were the selling the 50p coin for as much as £100.

With these rare coins, there are only a set amount available which can see their price soar.

The coins are the second 50ps to enter circulation with His Majesty’s face.

Marking the transition from Queen to King, the first was the memorial 50p coins, which entered circulation in December 2022.

The Kew Gardens 50p is the rarest of all the 50p pieces, with only 210,000 in circulation.

They have been known to sell for as much as £895 on eBay before – a whopping 1,800 times its face value.

Coins with rare designs or to commemorate historic figures and events such as The Olympics often attract high values.

Use experts like Coin Hunter to check over your change and see how much it could be worth or refer to the Changechecker scarcity index.

It is worth looking at how other rare coins have sold on eBay

Watch out for fakes though.

Get your coin verified by The Royal Mint to reassure buyers that they’re paying for the real deal if you try to sell it as this can bump up the price.

They’ll be able to tell you if your change is worth what others are saying or maybe more.

If bidding on a coin, check how many others are interested as this can provide an indication of how valuable and genuine a coin is.

This is a good idea to help push up the price too as you can advertise it as genuine.
