Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider reveals the ‘lie’ he had to tell his wife before she died from cancer

Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider lost his wife Alicia Allain to cancer in February.

Now, the American actor, 63, has shared heartbreaking details of their final moments together and the ‘lie’ he told her to comfort her.

Speaking to People this week, a heartbroken Schneider said he told Allain on her death bed that he would be ‘OK’ without her to make her feel better about leaving him.

“‘If you’re tired, if you want to go see your grandma, you want to go see your grandpa, if you want to go, then it’s OK. You go,'” he said he ‘truthfully’ told Allain in a bid to comfort her.

But he said he ‘lied’ to her about him being OK after her death, as he said he’s shattered without his wife.

“But then I lied, because I said, ‘Don’t worry about me; I’ll be OK,'” he explained.

“That was a lie I had to tell, but she knew it. OK is a long way away.”

Schneider said it’s been incredibly difficult to process his grief and described the pair as ‘kindred spirits’.

He added that he writes daily on her Facebook page even after her death by posting some ‘letters to heaven’ to keep her memory alive.

He also got a tattoo tribute to his late wife and believes they’ll be reunited in heaven once he dies.

Allain died in February at the age of 53 after a battle with cancer. She was previously given the all-clear from breast cancer but it spread to her bones.

In a heartbreaking tribute shared on Facebook and Instagram at the time, Schneider – best known for his role as Bo Duke on the series – shared a happy snap of his wife and one of them holding hands with their wedding bands in full view.

“My beautiful Smile is pain free, living in her new body alongside Jesus,” Schneider captioned the pics. “Please respect our privacy during this time of grief. Please do not ask any questions.”

“If you have any pictures of us and our obvious love and adoration for each other, please post them below. Lastly… hug those you love tight and let them know how you feel. We always did.”

In another post shared after his wife’s death, Schneider uploaded a sweet video of the pair dancing together.

Schneider and Allain were married in 2019, in an intimate barnyard ceremony in Louisiana.

The actor was previously married to Tawny Little in the ’80s and Elvira Schneider from 1993 to 2019. They share three children together.

Meanwhile, Allain was married to Patrick Dollard in the ’90s, who is the father of her only child, daughter Jessica.
