‘Too much’: Florence Pugh shuts down about her body and outfits

Florence Pugh has hit back at body shamers in a candid new interview.

The British actress, 27, told Elle UK “I speak the way I do about my body because I’m not trying to hide the cellulite on my thigh or the squidge in between my arm and my boob.

“I would much rather lay it all out.”

Pugh referenced the time she went braless in a stunning pink sheer Valentino dress last year that got critics talking.

“I think the scariest thing for me are the instances where people have been upset that I’ve shown ‘too much’ of myself,” she said.

She added: “It’s the freedom that people are scared of; the fact I’m comfortable and happy. Keeping women down by commenting on their bodies has worked for a very long time.”

She previously told another publication that she refuses to “comply” with Hollywood’s body standards and said she ‘loves food’.

Last year, Pugh hit back at critics of her pink Valentino gown in a lengthy post on Instagram and said lots of men had made comments.

“Listen, I knew when I wore that incredible Valentino dress that there was no way there wouldn’t be a commentary on it. Whether it be negative or positive, we all knew what we were doing,” Pugh wrote, adding that she was “excited” to wear the gown and “not a wink” of her was nervous to do so at any point throughout the event, before or after.

“What’s been interesting to watch and witness is just how easy it is for men to totally destroy a woman’s body, publicly, proudly, for everyone to see,” the Don’t Worry Darling star continued. “You even do it with your job titles and work emails in your bio..?”

“It isn’t the first time and certainly won’t be the last time a woman will hear what’s wrong with her body by a crowd of strangers, what’s worrying is just how vulgar some of you men can be.”

Pugh continued her message by opening up about the “intricacies of [her] body” that make the actress herself.

“So many of you wanted to aggressively let me know how disappointed you were by my ‘tiny t**s’, or how I should be embarrassed by being so ‘flat chested,'” she said. “I’ve lived in my body for a long time. I’m fully aware of my breast size and am not scared of it.”

“What’s more concerning is…. Why are you so scared of breasts? Small? Large? Left? Right? Only one? Maybe none? What. Is. So. Terrifying.”

The Black Widow star then opened up about how she is “grateful” she grew up in a household full of “strong, powerful, curvy women” who helped her “find power in the creases of [her] body”.
