Man Utd player ratings: Captain Bruno Fernandes leads by example but Anthony Martial may as well not have played

A COMEBACK win for Manchester United was inspired and finished off by captain Bruno Fernandes.

They were two down inside four minutes as a stunned Old Trafford saw Taiwo Awoniyi and then Willy Boly find the target.

But the Erik ten Hag‘s men got back into the game before the break through Christian Eriksen.

Then in the second half after Casemiro equalised, star man Fernandes slotted home the winner from the penalty spot with 14 minutes of normal time remaining.

Here is how the Red Devils rated.

ANDRE ONANA – 5

Yes he can pass out from the back but saving a few more shots might be a good idea.

While he had little chance with the second he went to ground early for the first and allowed a shot to sneak under his arm. Recovered some ground with a good, if theatrical, stop from Willy Boly late on.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 7

Another fine game from the consistently good right back. His overlapping runs in the final third are proving a real threat.

RAPHAEL VARANE – 5

Not exactly the authoritative game you expect from the Frenchman and he was taken off at half-time no doubt with another one of those knocks he seemed to get regularly last season.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 6

Failed to get a header in for the Forest’s second but otherwise was his normal tenacious self at the back.

DIOGO DALOT – 6

With Luke Shaw out and Tyrell Malacia still not fit we will be seeing a lot more of Dalot.

Although did not look as comfortable on the left as he does on the right.

CASEMIRO – 7

ReutersCasemiro netted the equaliser to round out a clever free-kick[/caption]

Missed a sitter from a couple of yards out with a header to make it 2-2 in the first half.

But made up for that when he finished off a cleverly worked free-kick.

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN – 7

With Mason Mount out injured Eriksen returned to the side and was on the mark to clip home Rashford’s driven cross to get United back into the game.

ANTONY – 5

Did he really cost £85million? If you said say £30m you could just about understand it.

Has one trick and defences have long since figure it out as he cuts in front the right and shoots with his left.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 9

The captain led by example as United’s star man. Was at the centre of everything they did well not least his cleverly worked free kick that lead to the equaliser.

Then 14 minutes from time emphatically scored from the spot to win it.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 8

Had a hand in all three goals assisting the first, then pinging the ball back to Fernandes from a free-kick to help tee up the equalier.

Was the man fouled to win the penalty that decided the game.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – 3

United may as well start with ten men as have Martial on. As ineffective as ever on his first start since returning from yet another injury and off on the hour.

Rasmus Hojlund’s introduction cannot come soon enough.

SUBS

VICTOR LINDELOF (on for Varane 45) – 6

Always a willing and able deputy coming on at half-time to help shore up the United defence as they earned a second-half clean sheet.

JADON SANCHO (on for Martial 60) – 6

Came on in the number nine role as he replaced Martial but was no more effective than the Frenchman.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY (on for Antony 85) – 6

Was no doubt expecting to be gone this transfer window but an injury to Mason Mount may have shelved that idea.
