A CAR expert has revealed the five hidden features you can find in your car key.

The motors whizz took to TikTok to share the “secret functions”, one of which could even be a lifesaver.

A car expert revealed five hidden features of modern key fobsTikTok/@chequanxiaoqiao

You can start your car even when your key is dead using a sensor on the steering columnTikTok/@chequanxiaoqiao

First of all, she explained how to start your car even when your electric key fob has seemingly died.

Battery-powered fobs do eventually run out of power, but that doesn’t mean that you are stranded.

The expert revealed that, in many modern cars, there is an “emergency” sensor built into the steering column to account for this situation.

Just place the fob against the steering column just beneath the indicator and press your car’s ignition button while holding down the brake.

It should start up as normal thanks to this handy hack.

Secondly, the TikToker gave out a tip to deal with the annoying problem of forgetting to close your window before hopping out of the car.

Rather than unlocking the car, getting back in and rolling up the window, you can simply press and hold the lock button on your key fob and any open windows will close.

This also works in the other direction, as holding the unlock button will cause all four windows to roll down without you having to get in the car.

Next, she advised that if the indicator doesn’t flash when you lock the car, it means one of the doors is not closed properly.

Just check the doors and make sure each one is shut tightly before trying again.

If the light flashes, you know the car is fully locked.

Finally, the expert said: “Girls who often drive alone be sure to set this function.

“Simultaneously press the lock button and unlock button on the key and hold for five seconds.”

This tells the car to only open the driver-side door, preventing anyone else from gaining access through the other three.

Holding the two buttons turns this setting on so, when you return to the car, just press the unlock button as usual and only one of the doors will open, while the rest stay locked.

It comes after another motors expert explained why drivers hate EVs and advised against buying one.

Meanwhile, a pensioner claimed she was fined £100 for parking just an inch over the bay outline and vowed to fight the penalty in court.

One tip could even be a lifesaver, as it only allows the driver-side door to openTikTok/@chequanxiaoqiao
