A MAN has sparked a debate online after he used a sneaky trick to avoid paying for his oversized suitcase.
In a video on TikTok, the passenger who posts under the username bed.sweater, recorded himself tampering with the luggage scale at the check-in desk.
A man used his toe to change the weight of his luggage
The footage showed the passenger at the check-in desk where their suitcase was placed on the luggage scales.
When the suitcase was being weighed, the passenger used their toe to lift the scales, which made the bag lighter.
The passenger used the cheeky trick to make sure their oversized luggage was under the weight restrictions.
By using their foot to lift the scale, their luggage went from a weight of 54lb (24kg) to 48lb (21kg), which would’ve been under the limit.
A caption over the video read: “I am kind of surprised that this worked.”
The video has already had 2.3million views on TikTok – with users left divided in the comments.
One person wrote: “I do this all the time, and it works.”
While other people described the hack as “gold” and the “greatest of all time” in the comments.
But some holidaymakers weren’t as impressed, one person wrote: “I wonder how it works for the safety on the plane?”
While another added: “That’s dangerous for the other passengers.”
Those Brits who are thinking about giving the sneaky trick a go before boarding their next flight, might want to think again.
Holidaymakers who are caught tampering with the weight of their luggage at the bag drop could get into trouble.
This isn’t the first time a passenger has gone to extreme lengths to make their luggage fit into size requirements.
Last year, one man was filmed snapping the wheels off his suitcases to avoid having to pay extra luggage costs.
Footage of the frustrated passengers was shared on Tiktok by user Anna (@annapalumbo91).
In the video, the travellers are seen stamping and pulling the wheels to remove them from their cases.
Meanwhile, this passenger went viral for taking drastic action to make sure he didn’t have to pay extra for his hand luggage.
More airlines are cracking down on hand luggage as fuming passengers are forced to pay extra.
