Radio star Abbie Chatfield reveals the real reason she left her radio show

Days after Abbie Chatfield announced her shock decision to quit her radio show Hot Nights With Abbie, the star is now explaining the truth behind why.

In the latest episode of her It’s A Lot podcast, the host hit back at rumours she was fired and revealed she was becoming overly exhausted.

“I quit my job last week, so thought we’d start off talking about it,” she began.

“I thought there’d be a lot of negative press coverage because there usually is… I only saw one negative comment of people being like ‘I bet she got fired’.

“So for those of you listening, you may not know this, but the podcast is under the same network as the radio station.”

After spending time splitting herself between her radio and her podcast among other things, the star became overworked.

“It was really fun, I enjoyed doing radio, but it was so many hours,” she said. “You think people on radio just rock up and get in there half an hour before, and think they’re there for two hours a day… wrong! wrong!”

She continued: “There’s so much stuff you have to do, and people do radio as their only full-time job, OK? I was doing it as something else to do during the day. It was very exhausting.”

This wasn’t the only reason Chatfield cited, adding her frustration with the fact that her life was being “drained of content”.

“There are many reasons why I quit and a huge one was I felt like my life was being drained of content, like every single thing,” Chatfield explained.

“I would find myself doing things for content and hoping things would go wrong so I had something to talk about because I had 12 hours a week to fill of content about my life.”

The former Bachelor star, 28, admitted that after a two month break she realised she wanted to focus on her podcast again.

“I had two months off and I was like, wow, I feel like I can do the podcast better and the podcast is where I started my media career,” she said.

Over the weekend it was revealed that Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye will be taking over her national Nights shift on the Hit Network. The pair kicked off their broadcasting last night, completing their first 7-10pm weeknight show.

Chatfield announced the news of her decision to quit her radio show last Thursday via an official statement followed by an Instagram post shared to her 456,000 followers.

“I’ve made the difficult decision to move away from radio for now. I have decided I want my focus to be on my podcast, It’s A Lot and other television opportunities rather than remaining on air in a daily capacity on Hot Nights,” her official statement read.

“I am looking forward to continuing my relationship with LiSTNR into the future.”

SCA Chief Content Officer, Dave Cameron, added: “For personal reasons, Abbie Chatfield has made the decision to step away from Hot Nights, her national radio show on the Hit Network. Abbie’s last show will be today.

“We are pleased to say that Abbie will remain with SCA, and we look forward to continuing to support the ongoing growth of her extraordinarily successful podcast, It’s a Lot with Abbie Chatfield, published on LiSTNR.”
