Horse racing punters turn £3.50 into £11,000 payout with treble at Racing League

A pair of racing punters managed to land an audacious Thursday night treble.

The duo both placed the same bet with William Hill and staked a relatively small sum of £3.50.

Incredibly, the three horses accumulated big odds to return a staggering £11,681.60 for both bettors.

The Racing League continued to go from strength to strength in the latest instalment on Thursday, with racing from Windsor.

The pair selected two races from the track as well as one later in the evening across the pond at Leopardstown.

And they made the most of Best Odds Guarantee too, though did manage to back a winner at 25/1 – which went off at just 10/1!

It all started with the Windsor opener and Zoulo Chief, who was 22/1 when the bet was placed before easing in the market to an SP of 28/1.

But it won like a 2.8/1 shot, with Gina Mangan shaking up the frontrunner at the furlong pole before they scooted clear to win by over four lengths.

There was then an hour’s wait for the second selection, Show Me Show Me again at Windsor.

Winning bet

5.00 Windsor – ZOULO CHIEF – 22/1 – SP 28/1
6.00 Windsor – SHOW ME SHOW ME – 10/1 – SP 10/1
7.35 Leopardstown – CELEBRATING ETHEL – 25/1 – SP 10/1

This one wasn’t quite as comfortable as Oisin Orr’s mount didn’t hit the front until the final furlong, before keeping on well to hold off Lil Guff by half a length in the end.

It was then an even longer – and likely more anxious – wait until the third leg of the treble and this one came from Leopardstown.

Although, there must have been some confidence in Celebrating Ethel, trained by Andrew Kinirons and ridden by Luke McAteer.

The punters got 25/1 odds before it was backed heavily before the off – going off at just 10/1.

And the confidence was well placed as the runner started making headway after being pushed along 2f from home by McAteer, before sticking on to lead 1f out and running on really well to win by just under a length.

William Hill Spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “To win a treble with three long-odds horses is an achievement in itself, but to have selected one of these at 25/1 before it shortened down to a starting price of 10/1 is genius.

“Some luck must have played into it, as both Show Me Show Me and Celebrating Ethel won by the narrow distances of half and length and three-quarters of a length.

“It’s great to see punters getting stuck into the Racing League too, and celebrating big wins like these.”
