I wrote off my Tesla but it ended up on Ukraine frontline – whoever’s driving it likes listening to Drake on my Spotify

A DRIVER was baffled when he realised the Tesla he crashed in the US ended up 5,000 miles away on the frontline in Ukraine.

Jay Yarrow, from New Jersey, was further stunned when the new owner used his still-connected Spotify account to blast Drake tracks.

The CNBC executive editor told how he wrote off his Tesla Model X last year.

But in a bizarre twist, it suddenly came back online this month and his phone started to ping with notifications from the stricken motor.

Jay was left open-mouthed when he traced the notifications to the south of war-torn Ukraine, close to the frontline in Kherson.

He tweeted: “Here’s an unusual situation. I had a Tesla, crashed it, it was totaled. And now it’s … in Ukraine?

“And someone there is listening to Drake on my, still logged in, Spotify account.”

After Jay wrecked his flash car, it was sent to a salvage yard in New Jersey before being flogged on online auction site Copart, reports CNBC.

The company has more than 1,600 Tesla for sale at the moment – specialising in damaged motors.

But it’s feared it could be a security risk for Jay as the car’s computer is still connected.

The new owner has already used Jay’s Spotify account to jam to Drake playlists.

Ken Tindell, of automotive security firm Canis Labs, told the outlet: “The credentials to internet services are clearly left in the vehicle electronics and then can be used by whoever gets hold of the electronic.

“In general it’s possible to get data out of working electronics — it’s merely a question of how much effort that takes.”

Jay has been advised by Tesla to disconnect the car from his account to block the new owner’s access.

It comes as Vladimir Putin‘s war continues to rage in Ukraine.

This week, seven people were killed and 88 were wounded in a Russian double tap missile strike on a hotel and restaurant.

The deadly blasts struck 40 minutes apart injuring dozens of first responders who raced to pull survivors from the rubble.

It came as Ukraine said had rounded up an all-female spy ring working in the town.

Officials said at least 29 police, seven rescue workers and two children were hurt in the explosions in Pokrovsk.

Rescue teams worked through the night after the explosions ignited at least five separate fires and damaged a dozen apartment buildings.
