The Hammers had been interested in Ward-Prowse, 28, earlier in the window but initially struggled to agree on terms with the South Coast outfit.

Now there is an agreement for the Saints star to make a move to London for a fee of £30m.

It is expected that the midfielder will sign a four-year contract with the London outfit.

Having risen through the ranks at Southampton, Ward-Prowse has been ever-present in the team.

He has made 422 appearances in all competitions for the club scoring 55 goals and assisting 55 more.

David Moyes‘ side have been in the market for midfielders following the £105m exit of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The club has also lost midfielders Manuel Lanzini and Nikola Vlašić this summer.

West Ham had seen a £20m bid for Ward-Prowse rejected earlier in the window with Southampton holding out for £40m.

However, the clubs have agreed to meet in the middle to make sure a deal goes through with the Hammers offering better terms as well as a sell-on clause.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are expected to announce the signing of Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.

The Mexican international is set to join the club on a five-year deal after the clubs agreed a fee in the region of £35-40m.

In terms of outgoings, West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is reportedly gaining interest from Manchester City, although the treble winners have denied making a £70m bid for the Brazilian.
