Drivers are only just realising incredible cleaning hack using item you can get for £1 from B&Q

MOTORISTS are only just realising they can get their car spotlessly clean thanks to a handy tip which will cost them just £1 from B&Q.

Not only will this cheap and easy method help to keep costs down but will also reduce the likelihood of damaging your vehicle’s paintwork.

Dubbed the “two bucket method,” the hack uses one bucket of soapy water and another bucket with just clean water in it which is used to dip your wash cloth or sponge while getting the grime off your car.

B&Q is currently selling a 14litre black bucket for just £1.

Marcus Gilbey, a TikTok user who goes by the online name of @n800mrg, told his 173,700 followers this method “greatly reduces the likelihood of scratching your paint”.

The footage, which has been pinned to his page has been viewed some 4.6million times, picking up more than 113,000 likes.

Experts at Car Lease Special Offers said of the hack: “If you thought a bucket of soapy water and a sponge is all you need to clean a car, you’re mistaken.”

Gilbey explained how to carry out the cleaning method in his short video.

He said: “Fill one bucket with water and your car cleaning detergent, and fill the other with clean water only.

“Dip your sponge or cloth into the soapy water, wipe your car then rinse it in the bucket of clean water.

“That way, the dirt is released into the clean water bucket, so you won’t be rubbing it over your car again.”

He added that because the grit and debris could damage the surface of your car, drivers would save money in the long run.

Gilbey added: “On average, a paint repair can cost £135, so it’s worth taking precautions now.”

He also revealed another top tip about cleaning your car – the direction in which to wipe your cloth or sponge is also important.

The TikToker advised washing your car using straight lines, rather than in a circular motion.

The experts from Car Lease Special Offers said: “If you do the latter, you could end up with swirls on your car when it’s dry and in direct sunlight.”

It comes after a number of car enthusiasts and experts have been revealing their cheap methods of getting your motor spotless both inside and out.

One person recently revealed a neat little hack which costs just 58p and will keep your car clean and tidy.
