We’ve got another superstar on our hands worthy of the nickname ‘Iron Horse’ and he’ll win again at Glorious Goodwood

WHEN 2000 Sussex Stakes hero Giant’s Causeway retired we thought it would be a long time before another horse came along who could be nicknamed ‘The Iron Horse’.

But 23 years later we have found one in PADDINGTON (3.35).

Paddington has swept all before him this season and Chappers reckons he can keep it going at GoodwoodSportsfile

This colt, like Giant’s Causeway, is trained by maestro Aidan O’Brien and bids for a FOURTH straight Group 1 in this afternoon’s Qatar-sponsored feature live on ITV.

Paddington will be at short odds to follow up victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes and Coral-Eclipse, the latter over a mile and a quarter.

Giant’s Causeway took exactly the same route after his St James’s Palace Stakes success in 2000.

And after winning the Eclipse at Sandown and Sussex at Goodwood went on to take the Juddmonte International and Irish Champion Stakes.

It’s quite possible Paddington will do the same.

He has scared them off this afternoon as just six go to post for today’s showpiece, with Inspiral the only danger on paper.

However, she will have to do a lot better than when second to Triple Time on her seasonal debut in the Queen Anne.

Like Paddington she visits Goodwood for the first time for Frankie Dettori the Gosdens.

Of the others Aldaary goes well with some cut and was a fine second to Master Of The Seas in the Summer Mile at Ascot when last seen. But this is a different level.

ITV coverage gets underway with the Coral Handicap.

Amleto is open to all sorts of improvement but so is WESTERTON (1.50) who has been crying out for a step up to this distance.

Alan King’s challenger is well drawn in stall four and has Moore on top.

He goes very well with juice in the ground and the way he has been finishing over a mile and a quarter suggests this trip will be perfect.

So that’s hopefully two for Moore and if he has a bad day so will I as you will see when it comes to the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes.

JUMBLY (2.25) is not well drawn, but this looks a decent chance to get back to winning ways since leaving the Roger and Harry Charlton stable.

Now handled by Joseph O’Brien, Jumbly ran a fair race when fourth behind Rogue Millennium in the Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot and, provided he can get a good position, has strong claims under Moore.

Before the Sussex it’s the Group 3 Molecomb for youngsters over five furlongs.

This is a tough one to call with inexperienced horses at such a tricky track.

KYLIAN (3.00) is likely to be finishing fast after his Listed success from off the pace at Sandown last time and he looks to be improving all the time.

This will be his fifth start which might help Moore’s mount for trainer Karl Burke.
