Maria Thattil’s surprisingly relatable moment on the 2023 Logies red carpet

It’s not the kind of thing you see every day – a former Miss Universe Australia chowing down on takeaway McDonald’s on the Logies red carpet.

But that’s exactly what Maria Thattil did between celebrity interviews while reporting for 9Honey at the 2023 Logies on Sunday night.

“Guys, it’s tough work out here. A girl’s gotta eat,” she joked to 9Honey as she tucked into an order of fries and nuggets.

In years gone by, many stars would never dream of talking about – let alone eating – fast food on a red carpet, but Thattil had no reservations about digging into her order.

“You’ve got to sustain yourself,” she said on the night. “Eating, working, she’s multitasking. She’s talented… save a nugget for Hamish [Blake].”

Thattil then pulled a large order of fries from her takeaway bag, only to accidentally spill several hot chips on the red carpet.

“This is how you know I’ve been on the red carpet,” she quipped, pointing to the trail of chips on the ground.

Though she tried to clean them up, the model and TV personality quickly realised that wouldn’t be happening because her dress was too tight for her to even bend down in.

The elegant purple Con Ilio creation featured a cinched corset bodice over a fitted ruched skirt, which looked phenomenal but made picking up chips of the floor downright impossible.

“I’m giving up,” she told 9Honey after trying and failing to crouch down in her tight ensemble.

It was Thattil’s first time reporting from the Logies red carpet and despite a few hiccups – fries on the floor and a mystery paper cut on her finger – she kept things relatable.

In fact, the former Miss Universe Australia even rented her jewellery for TV’s night of nights rather than splashing out on diamonds.

Despite saving a chicken nugget for Hamish Blake, Thattil didn’t get the chance to chat with him on the red carpet, but she did catch his comedy partner Andy Lee for an interview.

When Thattil asked who Lee would be voting for for the coveted Gold Logie, his answer was exactly what she expected.

“I’m biased. I’m Hame the whole way, we’re both voting for Hame and got the family to do it as well,” Lee told her with a smile.

Despite Lee and girlfriend Rebecca Harding voting for Blake to win the gold, he lost out to Sonia Kruger.
