And a deal to land Hojlund is now close after United struck a £72m transfer fee, with £64m to be paid upfront and a further £8m coming in add-ons.
The Denmark international will pen a bumper five-year contract with the Red Devils after bidding farewell to teammates today.
Paperwork is set to be exchanged between all parties in the next 24 hours, with Hojlund set to undergo a medical at Carrington.
And it’s only a matter of time before he’s is confirmed as United’s latest big-money signing.
The 20-year-old only joined Atalanta last summer in a £14.5m move from Austrian side Sturm Graz.
Hojlund scored nine goals in 32 Serie A appearances after breaking into the starting XI.
And his impact as a versatile targetman caught the eye of Ten Hag.
He was hoping for a similar result from January loan signing Wout Weghorst, who failed to net a single league goal in 17 outings.

Hojlund will become United’s third major signing of the summer, taking their spending to £179m.
Ten Hag first wrapped up a £60m deal for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, a player he’s admired since his Ajax days.
And the tactician also completed a £47m move for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.
The goalie and Ten Hag previously worked together at Ajax, with Onana now set to join pals Lisandro Martinez and Antony in United’s XI.
