Jockey jokes he’s a ‘bloody crook’ after unusual end to horse race sparks social media storm

A JOCKEY joked he was a ‘bloody crook’ after this very unusual end to a horse race sparked a flurry of social media comments.

Champion conditional jockey Luca Morgan looked to be riding on for second spot on Greatness Awaits in the 2.45 at Uttoxeter on Friday.

But he crashed to the ground in dramatic circumstances just a stride before the finishing post.

Morgan was deemed to have been unseated before the Ben Pauling-trained 8-1 chance finished the race.

Not only did that mean the team missed out on second but the owners of the horse also missed out on their £1500 second-place prize.

Video of the incident spread quickly online and a number of comments from punters wrongly suggested the jockey had fallen off the horse too quickly.

Poking fun at them, Morgan even tweeted in response to a clip of the incident: “Bloody crook if you ask me.”

It turned out there was a perfectly reasonable explanation for him falling off and it was included in the stewards’ report.

The report read: “Jumping the final hurdle Greatness Awaits, unplaced, made a mistake and was unbalanced giving a bump to the quarters of Ten Past Midnight, placed third.

“After viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.

“On the run to the line the saddle slipped on Greatness Awaits resulting in Luca Morgan being unseated before the winning post.”

Fortunately Morgan was back on his feet soon afterwards and in good spirits despite his late catastrophe.

Still, footage of the fall attracted a lot of attention online.

One person mocked Morgan’s head onto the body of a diver, while one comment read: “An incident you’ve probably not seen before .”

Another said: “No one throws themselves off of a horse! Saddle looks to have gone. Glad he’s up OK.”

While a fellow Twitter user commented: “I’ve seen it all now.”
