The video was uploaded to Twitter by @MichaelSnasdell and shows a cyclist making his way down a busy road lined with cars and buses before pulling up beside a black transit van.
Things appear to be running smoothly before both the car and van swerve into a sharp left turn.
As the cyclist leans towards the pavement, he can be seen losing balance as the front wheel of the van seems to knock into his bicycle.
The cyclist is knocked off his bike and is sent tumbling towards the ground while the van comes to a halt.
But he manages to get up from the floor with minor injuries.
The poster said on Twitter: “Firstly, I am glad both parties are OK, and there were no serious injuries.
“Saw a collision this morning between a guy on a bike and a guy in a van. Left turn only lane, bike passes van on the inside mid-corner.
“Interested to hear people’s opinions on where fault lays?”
Graham Conway, Managing Director at Select Car Leasing admitted it’s a confusing junction but ultimately blamed the cyclist.
He said: “Whilst the driver of the van had not indicated his intention to turn left, the lane is a left-turning lane only.
“The cyclist finds himself in trouble after approaching the van, from behind, potentially in the van driver’s inside blind spot. That’s never a good place to be when you’re on two wheels.
“Could the van driver have afforded the cyclist more room? If the van had tried to take the corner more widely, allowing for the cyclist to turn at the same time, this would likely mean the van veered into the lane of oncoming traffic and endangering himself and others.”
The video has gone viral on Twitter with more than 251,400 views and hundreds of comments.
One said: “I’m not sure the cyclist knew it was left only, which is why the indicators should be used regardless.”
Another said: “Van didn’t seem to be indicating, but I wouldn’t have tried to go on the inside at a junction in a left turn lane. I do hate this whole who’s to blame culture we have.”
A third pointed out: “If the van driver was indicating, the cyclist is at fault. If he wasn’t, the driver is at fault.”
A fourth user said: “The van driver probably ought to have indicated, but it can’t be assumed.”
