Harry Maguire repeatedly booed in Man Utd clash with Real Madrid despite ‘playing better’ than first team regular

HARRY MAGUIRE was repeatedly booed during Manchester United’s pre-season friendly with Real Madrid last night.

United fell to a 2-0 defeat by Madrid after £115million new signing Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for the Spanish side after six minutes.

United, wearing their controversial new away shirt, then huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser before new Madrid signing and former Stoke City man Joselu put the game to bed with an 89th minute goal.

But it was another night to forget for Maguire.

The defender came on in the 62nd minute for Raphael Varane as Erik Ten Hag rotated his pre-season team.

And despite not really putting a foot wrong, Maguire was welcomed onto the pitch to boos throughout the United game at the NRG Stadium in Houston Texas.

He was then booed every time he had possession as he looked to play out from the back.

And fans on Twitter were disappointed with the attitude of fans at the game.

One fan said: “Funniest part is he’s playing better than Lisandro”

Another wrote: “When the online fans actually get to go to a game.”

And a third added: “Unnecessary, he’s been good”

While a fourth wrote: “Maguire played pretty good tonight, just saying…”

The abuse received by fans in Houston was the latest in what has been a miserable year for Maguire.

He found himself out of the United team towards the end of the season, despite originally being Erik Ten Hag’s captain.

He was then stripped of the United captaincy last week with Ten Hag not seeing Maguire as part of his first team plans.

He has been linked with a move to Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham this summer but his £190k-a-week wages have put off potential suitors.
