Showing the tip on his TikTok channel @scottykilmerofficial, he uses a product called Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner that costs around £9 on Amazon.

He explained on the video: “Now, back in the day, cars had carburettors, and you spray cleaned them with carburettor cleaner.

“Good luck finding a carburettor on a motor car. They don’t have them, and they use fuel injection systems with an electronic mass airflow sensor.

“And guess what? The sensors can get dirty, but you can clean them with the spray.

“With the car tuned off, just unplug the sensor that comes off and unscrew them and here’s the sensor. As you can see, this side is clean, but this side is really dirty.”

The mechanic says that you need to spray them until they look clean.

He continued: “Now here comes the hard part – patience- you want to let it air dry for an hour, or if you’re in a hurry, you could dry it with a hairdryer.

“Either way, then you put it back, that little cleaner can make them idle better, have more power and even get better gas mileage.”

The video has gone viral on social media with more than one million views and 724 comments.

And people have been left blown away after discovering this handy hack.
