The European tourist attraction that ‘looks like it’s from Star Wars’

A EUROPEAN tourist attraction has been compared to an idyllic planet from the Star Wars films.

Naboo is described as “a bountiful world with a mostly green terrain” that has cities filled with “classical architecture”.

While the planet is fictional, there’s a place tourists can visit that has been said to closely resemble it.

On a visit to Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, Portugal, Tiktoker Wyseax (@wyseax) couldn’t help but notice some similarities.

In their video they described the castle as having “Naboo vibes” due to the mix of architecture and greenery.

The four-hectare estate was built by Italian architect Luigi Manini in the early 1900s.

Its buildings are thought to hide symbols relating to alchemy, Masonry, the Knights Templar, and the Rosicrucians.

It’s also home to fountains, grottoes, statues, caves, and ponds, all of which are connected both above ground via pathways and underground by a network of tunnels lit today by fairy lights.

The comparisons with Naboo are clear, with the Star Wars data bank describing the ficional land as having “swampy lakes, rolling plains and green hills”.

The description continues: “Its population centres are beautiful -Naboo’s river cities are filled with classical architecture and greenery.”

Quinta da Regaleira is similarly built on rolling hills, making the comparison even more apt.

Wyseax’s video has been seen more than 6,000 times since it was shared with lots of people amazed by the attraction.

One wrote: “I need to live here.”

Another said: “It’s beautiful.”

Despite the obvious similarities, the films depicting Naboo were actually filmed in Italy at the Palazzo Reale, Naples and the Villa del Balbianello, Lombardy.

The latter overlooks Lake Como and has held onto its film heritage by offering Star Wars-themed weddings on site.

Wedding photographer Cristiano Ostinelli shared photos of a wedding they captured at the villa with Darth Vader and stormtroopers in attendance.

Other famous Star Wars filming locations include Wadi Rum in Jordan, the Sidi Bouhlel Canyon in Tunisia and the Tikal National Park, Guatemala.

However, there are also some UK filming locations that can be visited, including one that very briefly was also used as part of Naboo.

RAF Greenham Common in Berkshire was used in two Star Wars films as the base of the Resistance on the planet D’Qar.

Fans can spot it in both the 2015 film The Force Awakens and 2017 film The Last Jedi.

Whippendell Wood in Watford featured in two scenes in The Phantom Menace, but you’ll have to be quick to spot it.

The opening scenes where Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi meet Jar Jar Binks was filmed at the 165-acre land, along with being the setting for the Gungan Sacred Place on Naboo.

Meanwhile, this pub has had visitors from all over the world because of it being featured in a popular TV show.

And this city in the UK is regularly used to double up for cities in America.
