AN “iconic” island in the UK is home to a famous hotel and a pub overlooking the beach.
The coastal island is twice cut off from the mainland by the tide, where it is linked by a stretch of shoreline.

Burgh Island off the coast of Devon is accessible via the shore when the tide is out, however there’s a sea tractor available for when the walkway is covered by the water.
It’s located directly opposite Bigbury-on-Sea and is described by Visit South Devon as “an iconic South Devon landmark”.
The island is well known for its hotel and its pub, although there’s also the remains of a chapel and an abundance of wildlife to discover too.
One person who was impressed with their visit to the island was Tiktoker Emma Cooke (@petite.blondine).
She shared footage of her trip in a video, which she described as a “brilliant UK day out”.
Her viewers were impressed with the footage, with some saying it looked like it was abroad.
One wrote: “Looks amazing.”
A second said: “I need to go here, love this.”
A third added: “Cant believe this is in the UK.”
Burgh is steeped in history, with Agatha Christie using a beach house on the island as a writing retreat, where she authored two books -And Then There Were None and Evil Under the Sun.
The film of Christie’s Miss Marple book Nemesis was also filmed on the island.
Guests can stay in the beach house, which is part of the art-deco hotel on the island.
There are a range of other options for visitors, including a cosy double room, a luxe double room, a suite, a grand suite, an artist’s studio and the Tony and B suite.
The last on that list is named after Beatrice and Tony Porter, who renovated the hotel in 1929.
Other notable former guests include the Beatles, Sir Winston Churchill and Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.
Stays in the hotel start from £470 per night.
The Pilchard Inn is the name of the pub on the island and serves “fresh, seasonal food” as well as drinks and overlooks the beach.
Previous customers have praised both its character and views.
One wrote on TripAdvisor: “A sweet little place worth a visit. The pub had lots of character, the staff were friendly and helpful.”
Another said: “Would highly recommend a visit and our special thanks to Dan for making us feel welcome and looking after us and to Josh the chef for his outstanding culinary skills.”
A third added: “The setting is breathtaking with views across the sea and estuary for miles.”
The hotel has an “outdoor mermaid pool” a natural seawater pool that offers swimming for guests.
They claim it to be “a refreshing alternative to a chlorine-filled indoor pool”.
However, there’s also the sea around the island for people to swim in, with its shallow warm waters attractive to both surfers and dolphins.
